Personal Statement from Rachael:

"Hello bathing beauties! I'm very excited and just a little bit (!) emotional to share my brand new video for 'Nexus (Acoustic)' today. Forgive me being a little nervous about it, but it's meant so very much to me to try to honor the real-live story and human beings that inspired me to write it, that it feels like a giant exhale to finally be able to release this work.

"'Nexus' is a song I wrote about non-binary teen Nex Benedict – if you don't know much about their story you can read more HERE – who passed away after being badly beaten by school peers. This tragedy caught the nation's attention, as it should have...so many of us in the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies felt the needless loss of this beautiful young person on a very deep level, and I was left thinking a lot about how their school and their wider community ultimately failed them.

"As someone who was very badly bullied myself through my school years and even physically assaulted by 'mean girls' more than once, it was impossible for me not to want to address this story somehow through song. But also...I was reminded of my very first bandmate, a violinist named Charlie I played with in college, who took his own life rather than come out to his very conservative family as being gay. I was a teenager when this happened, and it was nearly impossible for me to wrap my head around (some days it still is).

"During this Pride Month, I wanted more than anything to release a video that would show LGBTQIA+ people and allies celebrating queer joy, even amidst healing from loss and trauma. I wanted to celebrate the beautiful diversity, self-expression, compassion and fabulousness of all of us coming together to support and champion one another's uniqueness, with open hearts, irreverence and unconditional love.
